Social Concerns Discussion
Be sure to review the Discussion Guidelines prior to participating in the discussions. You’ll want to review the provided rubric for each discussion prior to posting as well. If you need assistance working in the discussions, review this 2-minute video on How to Engage in the Discussions
Instructions:
Each week, we want to give you the opportunity to discuss the social problem(s) addressed in the course lessons and materials.
Instructions: Make three (3) or more posts about this week’s social problem. For Week 2, we cover inequalities of race, gender, & sexual orientation. You may reply to this thread, start a new thread, reply to a peer, or reply to your instructor. Consider what stands out from your learning this week. It can be about causes/effects, policies and procedures to address the problem, and/or measuring and explaining the problem.
Social Concerns Discussion
Whatever you choose, think sociologically. How do structures or interactions relate to the problem? If you’ve formed an opinion about the problem, be sure to explain it and back it up with facts and course concepts. Identify your sources by including author and title or a working link. Formal citation is not required. [NOTE: You may also discuss your experiences with the problem (for example on the job or in volunteer work), but keep in mind that we are addressing social versus individual problems here.].
PLEASE CONSIDER: Substantive responses necessitate thoroughly addressing the prompt or post and advancing the discussion. While there is no required word count, the suggested word count is 200+ words. Please see the rubric below for how you will be graded.
