The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize you with professional organizations supporting the counseling field and to orient you to the potential benefits of engaging with these organizations. Please complete the following steps:

1. Research each of the following counseling organizations via their websites:

• • American Counseling Association (ACA)
  • American Mental Health Counseling Association (AMHCA)
  • American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
  • Additionally, you should research one of the ACA Divisions as well. A comprehensive list of ACA Divisions.

As you review each of these organizations’ websites, identify their missions, including any notable foundational principles. Note the primary benefits of membership within the organization as well as any significant professional activities that it seems to prioritize. Is there anything else that stands out to you regarding the organization that makes it unique? Summarize your observations regarding each organization in well-written and well-organized paragraphs.

2. Next, select one of the organizations you researched and identify the primary professional publication associated with it (NOTE: What journal is associated with it? This is different from the organization’s newsletter and/or membership magazine). Then, access the journal and assess publication trends within it over the past two years. What types of articles are typically published? What are the main topics highlighted? What notable gaps do you see in the depth and/or breadth of these materials?
