Part A. Choose one of the assignment options below:

  1. Share a time when you experienced the loss of some person or thing that was important in your life, that would be considered a special or disenfranchised loss. What made this an important loss? How might it have been modified if the loss was a different person or thing, or if the loss had occurred in another way?
  2. Think of losses that you experienced or that you observed (either directly or through the media) others experience in connection with any major public tragedy. What types of losses did you notice, and what were the main characteristics of those losses?

Part B. Try to be as complete as possible in developing the description of your reactions to the loss, including thoughts, feelings, behaviors or actions, and beliefs. What did you want others to do with or for you at that time? Who or what was helpful or unhelpful to you? Tell how this aligns with your authors’ insights about these concepts as you reference the readings and resources for the week while developing your answer. Relate your experiences and cite how the different characters in the brief Brene Brown animation paralleled or mirrored your experience with helpful gestures, inappropriate comments, etc.
