Identification of an Expert:

a. Choose an individual with significant experience and expertise in evidence-based interventions for children and youth in the field of mental health. This could be a CYC practitioner, researcher, or educator (YOU CANNOT CHOOSE ONE OF YOUR PROFESSORS) with a proven track record in the application of evidence-informed practices.

Interview Preparation:

a. Research the selected individual’s background, expertise, and contributions to the field.

b. Develop a set of thoughtful and relevant questions that delve into the practical aspects of evidence-based interventions for children and youth.

Some examples might be:

What is your philosophy related to evidence-based practice?

Do you currently use any specific evidence-based programs? If so, what are they? Can you describe how they are used.

Related to evidence-based practice, what skills and/or practices do clinicians need to have to be effective?

What is the value of using evidence-informed approaches in our work with children and youth?

What are your plans for the long term (next 3-5 years) related to evidence based practice?

What advice would they give someone just starting out who wants to grow as an evidence-based practitioner?

Interview Execution:

Schedule an interview with the chosen expert. Clearly communicate the purpose and objectives of the interview.

Be prepared to take notes, dress professionally, and allow for enough time for the interview

Conduct the interview (in person or zoom is acceptable), ensuring to cover a range of topics related to evidence-based interventions, and challenges faced

Written Interview Assignment Submission:

a. Provide a brief introduction to the expert interviewed, including their qualifications and professional background.

b. Summarize the key insights gained from the interview with examples quoted in your responses, focusing on practical applications of evidence-based interventions in the field of children’s mental health. This should not be a Q & A in your writing. You should work to write
in paragraphs and provide the questions and responses along with your understanding.

c. Critically analyze the challenges and ethical considerations discussed during the interview.

d. Reflect on how the information obtained can inform and enhance child and youth care practices.
