SSW Court Proceeding Assignment
The student will attend a court proceeding and observe the process. You will provide a brief summary of the experience and highlight how witnessing the proceedings will inform your practice. You will select a topic from one of the cases you witnessed. You will describe the legislation, how you understood it to be applied in the legal arena and then indicate how it applies to social service work and what you would specifically do should you be working with a client in this area.
The length of the paper will range from 1,500 -2,000 words.
APA format is required and examples of same can be found in the library.
You may submit a rough draft for feedback in accordance with the important date’s handout. Please refer to the marking rubric for the weighting of each area.
SSW Court Proceeding Assignment
The following format will be employed:
- Introduction
- Note the court that you Name the Judge as well as both lawyers.
- Describe your
- Definition of the area of legislation that you select, for example when you choose your topic related to Legislation you will name, then describe the legislation and indicate when it was
- Describe how the legislation was applied in the legal arena and then how you would incorporate the legislation into your social service practice, be it advocacy, individual, family or community/agency work. You may wish to create a case to help you apply this information, you can use the scenario that you witnessed in court however, I would ask that you change the name(s).
- You will ask yourself -what does your practice say, what does the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers say and how would you incorporate or plan to incorporate the literature into your practice?
- Your paper should be in keeping with the standards of correct grammar, spelling, sentence structure and the principles gleaned from Communications.
