The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate understanding and application of cultural influences on health practices. This will be achieved by creating a staff education poster that enhances healthcare providers’ awareness of how cultural beliefs, values, traditions, and practices impact health interactions within the healthcare system.

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

Complete this assignment following the steps below.

  3. Select a cultural group whose traditional cultural practices can influence health. You are encouraged to focus on a culture you care for in your nursing practice or one you would like to learn more about. Some examples of cultures include, but are not limited to:

  8. Native American
  9. Research the traditions and practices of your selected cultural group and consider how they may impact health.
  10. Use at least one scholarly source from outside the lesson.
  11. Be sure the information on the poster is grounded in your research and not solely based on your experiences, opinions, or stereotypes.
  12. Use the template to create a staff education poster that enhances healthcare providers’ understanding of how cultural beliefs, values, traditions, and practices impact health.
  13. Use short bullet points. This document is meant to be concise and easy to read. It should not read like a paper.

Section 2: Traditional Healing Systems and Health Practices

List the most common healing systems practiced within your selected culture as a bullet point.

Refer to the lesson for common types of healing systems.

List at least one dietary or supplement-related health practice as a bullet point.

List at least one bullet point describing the actual or potential impact on health from the identified health practices.

Synthesize the information from the poster.

Create at least two bullet points describing nursing considerations related to the care of clients within the selected cultural group.

Format each bullet as a useful directive for nurses reading the poster.

Section 4: Format

Includes in-text citations on the poster.

Submits a reference list where identified on the template.

The poster is clear, organized, professional, and visually appealing.
